Option 1 - Get Them Ordained

Organizations like Universal Life Church or American Marriage Ministries allow anyone to fill out an application to become a minister. The process is simple, typically free, and legally recognized in many states. Both of these organizations are recognized in Georgia.
Option 2 - Use a Courthouse Ceremony
If getting ordained isn’t an option or doesn’t comply with your state’s requirements, consider the solution one couple found. When our oldest daughter wanted her grandfather to officiate her wedding, they discovered it wasn’t legally possible in the state of Florida without ordination. Instead, they chose to have a courthouse wedding the day before their big celebration. The courthouse ceremony made their marriage legally binding, while their grandfather got to lead a heartfelt and personal ceremony the next day in front of family and friends. It was the best of both worlds!
Option 3 - Co-Officiate
Some states allow a legally ordained officiant to co-officiate with an unlicensed individual. This way, your chosen family member or friend can still play a leading role in the ceremony, while the legal side is covered by someone authorized to sign the marriage license. This option is also legal in the State of Georgia.
Option 4 - Appoint a Temporary Officiant
Certain states offer the option of appointing a temporary officiant for your wedding day. This process varies by location and typically involves your friend or family member applying for temporary permission to officiate. This option is not legally recognized in Georgia therefore this option would not be possible.
